WEEKLY
MATCHDAY
Preview

Hi Everyone

I’m really looking forward to Premier League Matchday 7 this weekend with the standout game being played between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in the Saturday teatime kickoff.

Saturday, 30 September

Anyway, let’s start at the beginning with the early kick off on Saturday. Aston Villa entertain Brighton and with both teams having made impressive starts to the season I fancy this to be both an entertaining and high scoring affair. It’s a difficult one to call but I’m going with home advantage being the difference and Villa to win 3-2.

Somewhat unusually these days we have six matches kicking off at the traditional time of 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

In the Manchester United versus Crystal Palace game at Old Trafford I’m going with a squeaky 1-0 win for the Red Devils.

After their 8-0 demolition of Sheffield United last weekend Newcastle United face another promoted side this weekend when Burnley visit St James’s Park. Whilst I don’t see them hitting another 8 goals, I do fancy United to secure another three points with a 2-0 win.

Wolves host Manchester City and despite Pep Guardiola’s selection headache with players out injured and the suspension of Rodri after his surprising loss of composure last weekend, I still fancy City to record a comfortable 3-0 away win.

I can also see title rivals Arsenal scoring three goals in a 3-1 away win at Bournemouth.

In the last of the 3pm kick offs I’m going with West Ham to beat Sheffield United 2-0 and Everton to record back to back league wins with a narrow 1-0 win at Goodison Park.

And now on to the big game of the weekend. Spurs face Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and with both teams playing a brand of high tempo, entertaining football, it’s a game I am really looking forward to watching.

Spurs may have lost their main striker when Harry Kane signed for Bayern Munich but they certainly haven’t missed him so far this season. Son Heung-min has taken on the captain’s armband and with 5 goals in 6 matches seems to have taken on the responsibility for scoring goals as well! It’s great to see him back to full fitness and as I mentioned before the season started, I really fancy him to have a great season. Ange Postecoglou seems to be getting a tune out of all his players just now and since his arrival, there finally seems to be a feel good factor around the place.

Liverpool also score for fun and after a difficult time of it last season, Jurgen Klopp has built a new young side who are already showing many of the attributes that allowed the club to be so successful in recent years. I was a little concerned about how the brand new midfield would settle in, especially as I don’t think Klopp and his back room team would have been expecting both Henderson and Fabhino to leave in the close season.  However, the players they have brought in have settled really quickly and Liverpool now look like a side that can push once again for the big prizes.

The result is a difficult one to predict as it really could end up with any kind of score. One thing I am sure of is that there will be plenty of goals and as such I am going for a 3-2 final score in favour of Liverpool.

Sunday, 1 October

In the only game on Sunday I’m going for Nottingham Forest to play out a 1-1 draw with Brentford at the City Ground and then in the final fixture of Matchday 7, on Monday evening, I can see Chelsea eking out a 2-1 away win at Fulham to lift the gloom at the club and perhaps give them the kick start that Mauricio Pochettino and his players will desperately be hoping for.
